Hi all, Having just got back into shooting (after a 10 year break). My local shop has a Hubertus shotgun in stock that interests me. Has anyone got any views on this gun? I cant seem to find any info on the net about them, The gun looks well made and the price is very good (£400). thanks Scott

Hi Scott,
Welcome back to the fold and the forum...
The name Hubertus is annoyingly familiar to me for some reason, but I can't recall why. The few references I can find to it on the internet are of a firm manufacturing from 1839 to 1945 in Germany and the Krieghoff Hubertus rifle range.
I'm guessing that it's possibly a bit more recent than 1945?
You didn't mention what you intend to use it for (pigeons, game, clays etc) which may help others on here with alternative suggestions.
Certainly there are a lot of gun dealers out there who will sell you a good simple over and under for around the same money from more widely known manufacturers — meaning you have a better range to choose from. Have you had a look at the sort of thing available on www.guntrader.co.uk and, of course, in the pages of Shooting Times?
If it's a 12-bore over and under on a budget you are after, perhaps take a look at the review of the latest Baikal in this week's 13th March issue of Shooting Times, which comes in at £499 new (if my memory serves)... Or have a look at past reviews by clicking on the Guns button at the top of this page — it'll give you an idea of the sort of thing available.
One point I would make — if you up your budget a touch, the likes of Beretta, Lanber, Browning, Lincoln and John Macnab are within reach.
Does anyone else have a view or, indeed, better info on Hubertus than me?
Alastair.

The gun shop at southern counties (dorset) have several of these for sale. Maybe they will know more.( Phone 01935 83099 ) If I remember right there maybe some connection with Laurona or there was a Laurona Hubertus, not sure. How ever he is said to be the patron saint of hunting in europe.

I have tried one one the Baikals as suggested but I did not find the fit too good. Having received my shotgun and firearms certificate this morning I will be shopping around a few shops this weekend to see what feels good, (may up my budget a little). Thanks for the help.

Up the budget a bit mate to £600/£700 and you get some serious guns in that price range. The Lanber sporter gold is a very good bit of kit and should be another £200 on price. I`v had one and was very impressed at under £700, won several trophies with it and quite a bit of money. Also the Bettinsoli range is very good starting at under £600 and dont forget these are also out there second hand.

I have been looking at a few Bettinsoli's, I hear good reports about them. To be honest, the cheaper I can find a gun the better as I can then buy a rimfire as well as I have just got both certificates through. I will keep trwling on guntrader and local shops. Thanks for all your help.
