Dear all,

I am a student at University and have been clay pigeon shooting for some time, but have yet to experience rough shooting. I am really interested in observing / taking part in rough shooting. Would anybody be able to suggest how I can get involved in my area (South Buckinghamshire/Berkshire/SE Oxfordshire)? Thanks in advance for your help!

Jord

Hi Jord, unfortunately I am a bit too far away to give specific local advice but i am sure that what worked for me will work anywhere!

There is no short solution i'm afraid, i spent months visiting farms and estates to secure the small ammount of land i can shoot over. From my experience the smaller holdings are more likely to listen to you AND you will have a better chance of speaking to the landowner.

It may be worth a visit to your local clay ground as some members will undoubtedly have access to local land.

Of the farms i visited, most wanted references and proof of insurance. The insurance is easy but the references become a bit of a viscious circle.

You only need to look in the adverts in any shooting mag to see the high number of shooters looking for land but i believe the effort taken to knock on doors will pay off.

With regard to permission being granted i would suggest obtaining written permission from the landowner. Most police forces have some form of form available on line.

Good Luck
