Second Hand Beretta 12 bore 686E 30"
      #3360 - 26/06/2008 19:31

I have recently taken up clay pigeon shootiong as a winter sport and want to purchase a decent 2nd hand Beretta shotgun - how do I find a decent gun and are there any problems in acquiring one that readers of this forum might point out to me?

A new gun is not totally out of the question.

Hello, Hughiain,Uk gunroom seem to have a good range of guns/makes online. Google ukgunroom and check them out. I personally would pay that bit extra and buy new. Beretta seem to hold their price well, so the difference won't be great, but with a new gun, you'll at least know its history.

If you live near Stafford try G Bates gun makers, they seem to do fair deals. Good hunting

I have been offered a Browning 525 for £1050 new from a local dealer - seems a lot cheaper than a new Beretta 686E which has now climbed above £1300.

If it`s a 686e you want then go for it, second hand or new they are a very good bit of kit for a first clay gun.
Providing it fits well then your away, it will last you years even a second hand one because they havn`t been out long.
However as a coach I would say that the first thing to do is get a couple of lessons and let the coach sort you out, it`s something that you will not regret. A good coach will tell you if the gun is right for you or not and show you how to use it well and of course safely.
If possible buy a gun from a shop that has a shooting ground on site, that way you will be able to try before you buy and maybe get a quick free short lesson.
Good luck.
