That Dreaded Shot

I know when I see a bird turn and fly directly away from me that I am probably going to miss it. I've tried everything but just don't have the technique for hitting them. I can get onto them, but do I need to give any lead at all if all I can see is their reer end? Any tips on this type of shot from anyone would be much appreciated as myself and 2 others are about to hit the pigeon next week and I don't want to be shown up
