My best advice is to search through your friends and family! One of them is bound to have land somewhere, or know somebody who does. I went to school with two lads who lived on farms, and a simple phone call from my dad to their dads started the ball rolling. When you make contact however, highlight the fact that you are only using an air rifle, and that you only want to shoot at times when there are no workers on the farm, and only in certain 'safe' areas indicated by the landowner. He/she will be impressed by this, and thus will be more likely to say yes! Once you have gained a 'foothold' - you can start NETWORKING. I.e. 'Hi, I'm Robert Jones, I shoot on Mr Marshall's farm next door, I have noticed that you have a pigeon problem, would you like me to do a bit of pigeon shooting for you?' Now we have the best part of a hundred acres to play with, and it all started with a simple phone call. Areas such as alotments and golf courses are a non starter, due to the amount of people using the land - remember most people are terrified of guns. Plenty of judgement is based on first impressions too, so don't use cards, dress smartly and be polite, be cheery and use your age to your advantage! Also a sense of humour might help too, as farmers are often very jovial characters! The more they like the look of you, the more chance you have. Best of luck mate! Let me know how it goes! |
