New Springer pup.

Hello all,

Does anyone know if my new Springer Spaniel pup(dog) can be a family pet, as well as an effective gundog?

Regards

Re: New Springer pup.

hi, i have 5 spaniels ranging from 7 to 1 year, all of which are cracking pets and even better workers.

after they have been shooting they come in the house for the evening but prefer to live out in the kennels as they are much cooler than the house..

alot of people would disagree with me on this one but my dogs are part of the family, they do all the things a pet dog would do, and have as much envolvement with the family as possible.
the only thing i would say is that it is harder to keep an eye on their manors when they live with the family with things like tugging with toys and begging for food.
hope this helps, dont be put off by people that think that a hard working dog should live a hard life,
cheers

Re: New Springer pup.

Thanks Jods, that does help.

He will be, first and foremost, a working dog. Though after my partner met him I think he may get treated more as a pet and I didn't want this to affect his performance in the field.

Thanks again

Re: New Springer pup.

Both my Springers are family pets and working dogs, just try to discourage any play that could affect training, such as tug of war games and playing fetch continually.
