strange retrieving problem help please!

I have a 6 year old hungarian vizsla and he is a great retriever but he wont retrieve birds. We think this might be because we used to have chickens and and we would tell him off if he tried to chase them.Is this why? If so does anyone know how to help?

Greg,
You need to teach him to retrieve feathered quarry (birds)
Start with wings on dummies and then move on to cold game.
Whereabouts are you located?
