air rifle

Hi ive just started shooting and unable to afford my firearms yet i was wanting to know what kind of air rifle would be best suited for hunting ive been looking at the uramax magnum 850 would this be acceptable

I think from personal exerience if you have an FAC (which i do not) it is cheaper than buying a good air rifle set up!
My recent purchase a Theoben MFR cost me 925 notes! A good 0.22 rimfire or .17HMR could be purchased for a lot less.
If you are stuck to buying air rifle then go to a shop and ask them, they will in general give the best advice for the money you have to spend.

My last air rifle costs over £700 inc a scope, Air Arms S410.
My last FAC rim fire cost me a lot less than that, funny old world.
Both bought new.
But........the air rifle is a PCP and the rimmie is a CZ workhorse and they both have their place in my cabinet.
If on a budget look out for some good quality second hand kit, springers and PCP's on the Airgun BBS, you will savea lot.

The Umarex would be fine up to the usual 35/40 yard maximum.
All modern air rifles at the legal limit will do the job, some are better than others cost wise though!
I have a Theoben Classic of some 15 years vintage, still bang on the limit, accurate but HEAVY. Go for a BSA PCP; Ultra, Hornet, Scorpion, just as accurate as much more expensive jobs

Hi.
You do not have to send loads of money to get a good air rifle and you do not need to buy a PCP. There are some very good spring powered air rifles on the market from BSA, WEBLEY, AIR ARMS and WEIHRAUCH and they all have models to suit your needs go along to your local gun shop and have a look at them if you can try them out even better. If the gun shop is any good they will but you on to the gun that best suits you and what you want to use it for. A recommendation is the Webley Stingray I have been using one for 2 Years now and I can not fault it.

How much do you have to spend on a rifle? Also noticed that the Umarex is CO2 powered, which is not ideal really.
Spring powered rifles are cheaper and my personal recommendation is the Weihrauch HW95K with a Bushnell scope, as per my signature. You can buy this set-up new for around £270.
If you're looking at PCP, and depending on your budget, I'd highly recommend the Weihrauch HW100 rifle. It's not cheap, but probably one of the finest PCPs on the market.
One other thing: don't get hung up on FAC. There are many circumstances where a FAC rimfire / hmr / air rifle are not suitable to use because of safety reasons. That's where the sub-12ft/lb comes into its own and such rifles are more than capable of taking rabbits at 35-40 yards (assuming the shooter can reliably hit a 50p sized target at that range).
