Help!

Hi guys. Brand new to the board as you can see. So apologies in advance if this message is in the wrong place!

I'm looking at buying my first gun. And I'm a big fan of James Bond so I was looking at the Walther CP99 CO2 Pistol.

When I've been searching around I've notice a lot has changed with laws etc. Where do I actually stand on getting this gun now, and from where? I've got more questions about the gun but I suppose I better start with seeing if I can even get it first!

Cheers guys.

Re: Help!

One would have to ask a very important question....."WHY???"

It has no practical use as far as I can see, apart from posing with in front of a mirror. Sorry to sound harsh, but can you explain why you need such an item?

Re: Help!

No offence taken! Tell you what. I'm new. Totally new. Where do I start? What would you recommend. I want something for a beginner but I want something that will last me for a while as my shooting improves.

Cheers again

Re: Help!

I agree with the Cpt. Your giving out the wrong signals for gun ownership.
If you are determined to have a gun then get down to a good clay club and learn to shoot safely and have respect for what you have in your hands. A good coach will nock out all the wrong stuff in your head and replace it with stuff you will love learning and respect, but find the money and go at least 3 x times before you buy a gun, for all our sakes.
As a coach I see this quite often on shooting grounds only to find that the guy has never had a shooting lesson before or has been shooting for 15 years and has just had the one lesson but far too late and acts like a chimp on speed, with a gun in his hands. Other shooters hate that.
Get a few lessons first.

What sort of shooting do you want to do? There are many different disciplines:

Target Shooting:

Air Pistol/Air Rifle - paper targets in your garden/at a club
Gallery Rifle/Fullbore Rifle/Muzzle Loading Pistol - paper targets at a Home Office approved club
Shotgun - clay target shooting at a club/on private land

Game/Rough Shooting incl. Vermin Control:

Air Rifle, Shotgun, Rimfire Rifle - rabbits/pigeon etc
Centrefire Rifle - foxes/deer etc

For air guns up to 12 Ft/lbs muzzle energy, you do not need a licence. I would advise that you join a local airgun club to learn the basics of safety and marksmanship
For smoothbore guns - ie shotguns, you need a shotgun certificate. I would advise that you find a local clay shoot and visit - they will help you
For rifles and muzzle loading pistols, you need a section one firearm certificate and must satisfy the Police that you have a 'good reason' - ie are a member of a target shooting club/have permission to shoot rabbits on a farm etc. Join a Home Office approved club to learn the basics of safety and marksmanship

I am the secretary of a very large Home Office approved target shooting club in the south of England - please feel free to IM me and I will do my best to advise you.
