Suppressed Whispers

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and am curious about the laws in the UK with regards to subsonic cartridges and sound suppressors. I am interested in buying a single shot T/C Encore for a .300 or a .338 Whisper cartridge, or possibly a SSK bolt action rifle for the same cartridge, with a suppressor.

Suppressor ownership is regulated in America, but I am unclear as to what the laws are here in the UK.

Is it likely that one can get a licence for a gun designed for subsonic cartridges, with a suppressor? And do you know if any gundealers would be willing to import these firearms from the States (with the cost falling on me)? Plus is it likely that one would be able to buy ammunition anywhere in the UK?

With thanks,
Kathryn

Re: Suppressed Whispers

I would like to add that the reason I am interested in subsonic/silenced shooting is that my doctor has adviced me to refrain from shooting during pregnancy, unless I only shoot a few rounds at a time on open air ranges (to minimize exposure to airborne led), and ideally with a sound suppressed rifle.

And as I hope to have a large family in the future, I have to explore my options.

Thanks again,
Kathryn

Re: Suppressed Whispers

you can have what ever you want in this country, with the conditions
a- you have a use(wether over land/noise polution/etc)
b- it states that use , on that firearm, on your firearms licence

if not sure ,phone your local police firearms licence dept & simply ask .

happy shooting
