Hi Suz, Welcome to the forum. I hope you find it useful. I'd back up what Morris, Icanshoot and Hooray Henry have all said. In particular Sporting Insurance Services are a good name to consider (www.guninsurance.co.uk). They are specialists in the area and, rather obviously, understand shooters. Your household insurance very often should cover guns as named items — depending on the insurer. I have heard of some companies refusing when they put the three letters g u n together and alarms go off in their heads. Try and explain that it's the same as insuring golf clubs and they often won't hear a word. NFU Mutual, I believe, could be a good option, however, as they're conversant with country ways. There are other companies I'm sure. Has anyone else got a suggestion?Yours, Alastair. |

When I checked, I found that the only stipulation was the value, as with any of the other items on my contents insurance. In our case as long as the item is under £5000.00 it is covered. I specifically asked if they had any exclusions for shotguns and was told no. Our household contents insurance is by Barclays. Hope this helps. Ian

Suz, I have my insurance with NFU and I have their home and lifestyle policy with buildings, contents and personal belongings sections. I have separately listed the guns worth more than £5000 under personal belongings. They are covered for all risks including accidental damage and are covered for damage while in use. With contents section I am insured for "third party" liability of £2.5m while engaged in "private pursuits" so that covers my neighbours in the line. No cover for theft from unattended vehicle unless it is in a locked boot and there is evidence of violent entry, though that goes without saying for guns. I think if for business (i.e.) paid pest control you may need to look at other policies. The branch I use is on 01322 665560 and I find them helpful. |
