Firearm Law in Northern Ireland

I'm new to the site and don't currently have a gun or rifle, but I'm soon moving to Northern Ireland. Having previously shot rabbits on relatives farms and enjoyed clay shotting, I was hoping to get a .22 and a shotgun.

However, I think the firearms law is a bit different overthere. Also, I was told that having previously served a driving ban for speeding I was "socially unacceptable" and would be refused a licence despite having CRB clearance to work as a doctor.

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Thanks,

Graeme

I believe all guns, including air rifles require a FAC, therefore you dont see many sub 12ftlb air rifles there. FAC rules are a little tighter than shotgun rules but it is still not that hard if you can proove need.

If you can bear it have a read through here:

On the point of driving ban and not being suitable I would suggest a call to BASC if you are a member, if you are not it may be worth the membership fee as they will advise the best approach.

Good Luck!
Jerry

Cheers Jerry,

I've had a look at the link; I'll put aside some time to read it, maybe an afternoon or two! I'll get in touch with the BASC, membership would probably be handy for things like insurance as well as advice.

Thank again,
Graeme
