Importing a shotgun

Hey Guys,
I'm about to go to the U.S.A. on holiday, and I was thinking about buying a shotgun out there. As far as I'm aware, customs fill in my certificate on my return to the U.K. And notify my chief constable. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of doing the same thing and could give me any idea of any potential problems I may encounter, and what level of duty I can expect to pay, as the HMRC website gives no indication whatsoever.

Never done it from the US, but in Europe its a case of buy, take home & inform the local firearms office as per usual.
