What are the best decoys and plans for getting on top of magpies? I've tried using dead stuff and decoys but to no avail. Perhaps it's due to the time of day. Any help gratefully recieved. James |

Have you tried the match box trick, that can work very well. Owl decoys over a dead rabbit has also worked well for me in the past. The secret through is being well hidden and not moving. These days I shoot must of my magpies with the HMR, they are further away so it is easier to stay out of sight. |

Magpies are a pain in the arse... I've only ever shot three, in the five years that I have been shooting... Granted though, I hardly ever see them on the farms. Just for future reference though, please explain the matchbox trick! It sounds intriguing! |

If you take a match box half full of matches with you and see a magpie. Hide up somewhere they can see you and shake the box every now and then, the rattle sounds similar to their call and being an inquisitive bird they will come and investigate. |
