Hi Bivvyman,

Welcome to the forum. I hope you find it fun and informative. You'll get to know some great people on here with a lot of useful knowledge to tap.

The forum's getting bigger by the day, so dive in! (And if there are any shrinking violets out there who want to introduce themselves, you're all most welcome).

How are the rabbits with you, Bivvyman? We're hearing of a serious increase in numbers — does that tally with your experience?

Alastair.

Re: glad to meet...

Hello... Yes, it's another newby who is delighted to join the clan. I live in Nova Scotia now, and for a very considerable length of time. However, Surrey, Somerset, Norfolk and just about all of Wales are planted firmly in my heart. Good Lord! So is what used to be the Home Counties Brigade Depot in Canterbury. Odd, that. My preferred shooting here includes ruffed grouse in heavy cover, pheasant wherever found, black duck, and woodcock. Whitetail deer are very common (even on my front lawn) but I don't work too diligently on them. Nice to be with you.

Re: glad to meet...

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum.

Nova Scotia sounds like paradise for shooters. It's just a guess, but I imagine you don't have quite the pressure on land that we have over here! That said, I have to agree with you about several of your choices… Personally I'm a bit more Dorset inclined, but I'm right with you on Wales. Some of the best shoots, and certainly among the friendliest, are in NW Wales.

Good to have you on board,

Yours, Alastair.

Hi Bivvyman. Where abouts are you in Yorkshire? i don't think you're too far from me. Do you have much land to shoot on? i have ferrets and work them as much as possible. Do you have much luck in Yorkshire?
Henry

Re: glad to meet...

Thanks for the welcome, Alastair...and my apologies for the somewhat tardy acknowledgement. You're right about the "paradise" aspect of shooting in Nova Scotia.
There are very few "posted" properties here. Come to think of it, I can only think of one within a 150k radius, and even then the posting is associated with an experimental softwood plantation. The real pressure on the woodlands here comes from clear-cutting work by the large pulp companies. There is someting of an upside to it, though. After a couple of seasons or so, the affected land provides excellent browse for the deer and good cover for grouse and rabbits. A susbsequent downside, is site remediation with monoculture plantings. Ah, well.
