Rabbit Baiting
      #2181 - 29/11/2007 15:34

Hope I have put this in the right forum category .. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of rabbit baiting. The process iv been told on this subject is that you find yourself a tripod and hang pea bags from it with old vegetables, you can also lay old vegetables on the ground. You leave the bait out for a week and replenish it on a daily basic, this will bring the rabbits into a place of your choosing to shoot when you feel there are enough rabbits to shoot.

I have heard of this, but thought it to be an old wives story.
One would question why you would want to do this?

I thought as you did .. that it was an old wifes tale .. but I was told that the main reason for rabbit baiting is i.e if you have a large corn field surrounded by a large rabbit warren that is inaccessible again i.e it cannot be ferreted or long netted this is a good way of bring rabbits into as I said before into an area of your choosing to shoot them .. that the best way I can explain it.

I thought you meant mocking or taunting them: "Oi, you long-eared gits! You're going in a pie, you are! I'll DO you OVER, I will" etc.

sounds realistic, have access to a couple of fields to knock over the rabbits, enjoy it but only a few spots to sit in find rabbits are generally in open areas without access to cover, will try it you never know, worse comes to worse i can eat the veg myself !

I have been to the pet food shop and bought some rabbit food for an attempt at "baiting" The little devils where I shoot are located in some difficult areas for me and getting them lined up for lunch may bring big rewards when there are three of us shooting at the dinner queue!!
Bunnies BEWARE of the free meal!!

Many a bunny went under the gun in a vain attempt to feed my hungry tum.
