It varies massively between each police region. Devon and Cornwall seem to be quick, Kent seem to take an age.

I have just completed a 1 for 1 firearms variation and that took just over 6 weeks which is not bad.

The reason that I was given when rang up to enquire the length of time that it took to renew was that now all applications for shot guns certificates where now to be entered on a national computer system !!!

Yep, the new "system" has added a lot of delays. Typical of Govt IT system implementations.

I am fightinging a land clearance issue for FAC at the moment and it is going to take some time. There is no consistancy across police areas what so ever!

I am still waiting for mine to come through (first appication not renewal).

I was told it would be at least 10 weeks, apparently every gun you have ever had on you certificate is tracked as to where it is now and who's it is currently on. This is still to do with the Dumblain (spelling I know) thing. More procedures still being put in place.

Annoying but I don't think it is the computer system that is the problem I get the impression that the process itself is a bugger.
I am waiting patiently, but getting less and less patient. I can see the pigeons flocking, and I can't go and but a gun yet and get out there.

Hi ya'll I applied for a shotgun certificate in Staffordshire on 20-12-2007 and still waiting.
I did e mail them mid February and a Lady rang to say they were currently processing Septembers applications.

So I expect (hope)to hear somthing end March mid April ?

Could someone please explain what the 'routine' is ? i.e do they send the certificate in the post or does the FAO visit and bring it with him ?

Gents, all i can say is that i'm delighted we don't yet have the much vaunted new firearms system. Section 1 variations locally take on average 5-7 days!

Well done to Grampian firearms licensing!

Update on my shotgun licenece application - for anyone still waiting. I have just been informed by Staffordshire Firearms admin that I can expect a letter from the firearms enquiry officer in 4 - 5 weeks. I applied in December 2007, - it's a disgrace. I could go out tomorrow and buy a bow or crossbow that will fire arrows/bolts that can kill you at 100 metres without a licence. Yet to get a shotgun certificate it, takes for ever ! Why ??
