I have just purchased second hand a side by side 12 bore shotgun. It has been entered on my certificate by the seller as a Wellington 12G side by side. I have asked some of my regular shooting pals about the gun and they all say "a what" I am trying to find out a little more about this gun maker even if I can find out the country of origin. Can anyone offer any assistance?

Hello Mate. I believe that the person who sold you this gun has made an error.I am sure there has never been a gun made or called a "Wellington" The near'est you are to that name is from W.W GREENER, hence William Wellington Greener who took over the business from his father in 1869. To the best of my knowledge he neither named a gun by that name. Can you be more specific in detail ie, age, stamps or any other markings that may show anywhere on the barrels or inside the fore end.It must be said that there are a lot of guns out there who,s identity will never be traced.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Looking at the fore end there is only a serial number on it, 142068. this is engraved into the metal work. there is also 068 stamped into the wood near to this serial number. Don't know if this helps.

Hello again Sorry for the late reply but I wanted to show my friend these numbers. Unfortunately they do not give any clues as to the maker. Like I said earlier some guns will never be identified. Sorry I can't be of any more help on this one.
