Hi Guys, reletavily new to shooting and am looking at getting my frst gun. Have been recommended a Beretta 686E Gold; will be primarily used for clays, so I guess the 'sport' version? Can it also be used effectively as a game gun? Many thx for all your inputs.

Hello mate,
The 686 gold E is a very good choice of gun for clay shooting, It has Optima chokes which is as good as you can get and Optibore barrels which cut down recoil. A 30 inch barrel will be best as it will help you swing on to the target better than the 28 inch.
It will be excellent for game shooting or rough shooting, the main difference you will notice between a game gun and a sporter which the 686 gold E is, will be the 686 is about 2x pounds heavier which will help with the recoil dampening.
If thats what you want and most importantly it fits quite well, then go and get one, you will love it.
Buy brand new and log on to the GMK website and get a free 3 x years extended warranty. Good luck.

Do you mean the 686 E, or the 682 Gold E? They are different guns and have a cost difference of about £700.

If you are relatively new to shooting its probably not worth spending the extra on the 682 Gold E, it won't necessarily help. I know several people with 686s who regularly shoot 40+ clays out of 50 at sporting, so it won't be the gun that holds you back for many years to come.

The 686 E Sporting is an excellent gun and although marketed as a clay shooting gun will be equally good for shooting game. Unless you're particularly tall or short, go for 30" barrels as they're the best compromise for shooting mainly clays and occasionally game.

I have got a 686 Gold E and it's a fabulous gun, can't fault it on the clay grounds - only thing that lets it down is the guy pulling the trigger!
