springer/cocker cross dog
      #3060 - 28/04/2008 18:47

i have a springer/cocker cross dog. got him about two years old he's now four.
he was difficult to train initially but have him hunting game although he has tendency to chase pheasant, but will respond when called. has a good nose, is eager to work, brilliant temperament. he will work with dummies all day, retrieve, find, carry. have covered dummies in rabbit and one in pheasant and he will find, fetch and carry these. he will not pick up dead game, not fresh dead, or day old dead, have attached rabbit to rabbit dummy but no good.would like to persevere with him, but have lost a few pheasants that he would not pick up. i only do some rough shooting, any sugestions greatly appreciated. am not sure of his lineage ?

Thanks Cpt, can't seem to find local training club, do you know of any sites, have managed to encourage him to bring back dummys with dead rabbits tied to dummies.
any further help greatly appreciated.

Depending on your location, there are plenty of clubs out there.

Try:

www.spearhil.co.uk or ask NFP20 (a member on here)

www.thegundogclub.co.uk

both will put you in touch with some very good trainers / clubs

I hope the info helped, but i do wish that my name would not be so readily available when it comes to training. I am not a trainer I am however an owner whose had several breeds that have put me through the mill so have learnt and am still learning from experience.

Regarding gundog training approach the BASC they will be able to find you someone local that can help with gundog training you could also ask the KC or the spaniel or cocker clubs who will know people local that can help you.

Good luck.
