Hi everyone I have a very bold and willful springer dog who is coming on very well in his training. However, he is obsessed with retrieving a dummy to the point of being borderline for running in when you throw one. If he thinks he has a good chance of getting to it before me then he will sometimes have a go. He knows very well thatit is wrong and knows what the stop whistle means. Problem is, if he does beat me and I dont get at him before he gets it in his mouth I dont want to rough him up. I have tried having him on a lead and tether but he knows when hes on it and when he isnt. Any ideas?

Don't throw the dummy to far and keep a hold of the dog. Also dont give him a lot of retrieves - they soon learn to anticipate whats coming. I would also throw the dummy out and make the dog sit/stay and then go and get it yourself a few times
