She is a good age to train.
The best thing if you have little or no experience is to join a local Gundog Training Club - these can be found by doing a web search. You could also look at the Gundog Club website - www.thegundogclub.co.uk and join their training program.

I agree with CptCarling she is the right age to train
I have been training my Springer Spaniel for some months now, and the thing i had to keep telling myself was it will be worth it when it comes to the season and you are commented on how well your dog handles. Some days you will have a perfect training session and others will be the exact opposite, the thing is not to get down by these bad days as i found when i first started you tend to have more of them than good days until you are past the obidence and steadiness stage of training.
Just one more thing as you may have heard already is that when you get to the retrieving part of training you might want to check the dummy/game for the signs of Hard-mouth, as with being a house pet may have had tug-of-war toys which might make her grip a little tighter than wot it should be.
Hope this helps as i'm only an amateur myself.

A point worth noting here is that when you do start retrieving training, make sure you use a light weight dummy, many of the dummies available are far too heavy to start a dog retrieving. A heavy dummy will encourage the dog to grip tighter as its carrying a heavier weight, where as with a light dummy, the dog doesn't have to hold as tight, hence encouraging a softer mouth.
