What is better flock or plastic decoys?Seems to be some confusion from previous advice.

I prefer flock coated or silosock decoys, though I still have a few plastic around that gets used from time to time.
On a dull day I dont think it makes a huge impact, but on a bright sunny day then maybe more effect.

I keep 6-8 frozen birds and use them, find the real thing works well

When you shoot some, add them to your plastic decoys then at the end of the day select the 6 or so that are most shot up and stick them in the freezer. That way you will have 10 the next trip.
On the next trip, use the frozen ones and at the end of the day replace the 6 frozen ones with 6 more you have shot. The more decoys you can get out the better.
You do need an understanding other half to ensure domstic harmony, or as I have, my own game freezer for such things

None! I dont like hides, I prefer to find a hole in a hedge and get in it. Get a pair of garden cutters and add them to your kit. That way you can expand your hole and not cart 1/2 a ton of kit with you.
A Toyota Hilux is also a good hide, as was proved on Thursday

Don't agree with cptCarling - you cannot always get natural cover - especially in winter. Use a stealth net and 4 clothes props (cut down to reduce weight)and you can have a hide "martini" style (anytime anywhere)

Yes, Thursday.....
Sat in my Hilux on the edge of a field and shot loads. No netting, truck is red and dirty, had the radio on....
And I didn't have to cart tons of kit around!

Going out with a gamekeeper tomorrow to show me the ropes.
Let u know how it goes,also he has taken me under his wing,for training,as a keeper.

All advise used and worked well.
Having good sport at the moment,also bagged my first fox.
Training with keeper going well,although hard with other job.
Any views on rotary positions would be handy?

Rotary positions eh!
Well all the books and experts say that the rotary should be at the head of the pattern, but that doesn't always work out. I've had it going behind me in a differnt field to help pull birds over the hide. On another day birds will deviate rapidly away from the rotary as soon as they see it - so either bring it in or put it down the far end of the field and maybe the birds will turn towards the hide?
Just experiment and don't keep it in one place if nothing is happening - try it all over (or bring it in)

Have tried moving rotary around,and yes agree with you.
Another question for you and everybody ?Do you find a slack part of the day when decoying.

I always find lunch time is the slack time
I think the birds may have fed all moring and are just sat digesting food, but they seem to switch back on in the afternoon. Some lucky sods may have them coming in all day - you just cannot tell - it's wild bird shooting!
