Belgian 12B Hammergun - J Lloyd Liege
      #3342 - 23/06/2008 14:13

Hi - first post here..

I have a lovely old hammergun, a 12 bore made in Belgium, I believe around the early 1900's. Full choke on one and improved on the other, it has Belgian blackpowder proof marks and also Birmingham nitro marks. The action is very 'handmade' in appearance. The barrels are blued steel (not Damascus, shame!) and the action is crudely engraved with a hunting scene and some scroll work.

It's tight on the breech face and bears only minor dings and scrapes, commensurate with it's having been used in the field for many years. One hammer has been repaired in a very 'workmanlike' way - ie the new piece welded on is not the same as the other! - I think this gives it some character.

I'm interested in any info anyone can share on it's age - I think between 1911 - 1924 from the marks, but would like to know more if possible. I shall be taking it to the farm tonight for some walked-up rabbiting. What a great way to spend a summers evening!
