removing the stock from side by side. Problems!
      #3375 - 30/06/2008 14:18

I have just acquired an old family side-by-side shotgun and I want to give it a good cleaning and refurbish. I want to remove the stock so I removed the butt plate thinking I would find a long bolt affair that secured the action to the butt. There is no hole that I can take a spanner or screwdriver to. How can I proceed. The gun is an old Ebor field grade S/S. Any help gatefully recieved.

I am not certain, but I'd say that there'll be a screw or two through the action from top-bottom. One will likely be behind the safety and the other might be under the top lever.

I have found that most firearms are relatively simple to dismantle - be methodical and use proper gunsmiths turnscrews if possible. If you don't use them, it's possible to spoil an otherwise good gun.

Good luck.....
