Greetings from across the pond
      #3629 - 12/08/2008 21:45

Found my way to this web site while looking for reloading info. I was under the impression that all gun ownership had been banned in Great Britain. Glad to see that you all still able to own, shoot, and hunt. Here in northern B.C. Canada my wife and I are looking forward to opening day Sept 10 for moose, mule deer, whitetail, and black bear. Elk is already open in some M.U.
The wife has just passed her C.O.R.E. course and has her hunters number so she is now able to buy her license and tags.
I bought her a Remington 700 30/06 BDL and stuck a Leupold VXlll 4.5X14-50MM with Boone&Crockett aiming system. So far she is doing ok and can ring the bell at 100 yards off the bench using 180gr Federal Premium ammo. Not bad for a new shooter. Got to get her off the bench in the offhand shooting position and ready for the field. I shoot a Weatherby 300 Mag Mark V and have the same scope configuration that the wife has. I sure do like the Leupold glass for the money you can't go wrong and they do stand up to heavy recoil of the big magnum loads.

Shooting is alive and well in the UK, indeed rifle ownership is on the rise I believe.

There are some very strict rules around ownership but they are easy to follow.

Shotgun ownership is even wider and has been well supported.

Sounds like you have a busy season ahead of you.

Drop by on the shooting community website and say hello...we have a few overseas members on the forum.

Hi Eaglesnester,

Shooting is very much alive and well in the UK – you may have seen news reports about the Glorious Twelfth (the opening day of the grouse shooting season which took place yesterday). It's a pretty traditional affair. Traditionally those opposed to shooting issue press releases, while those who are lucky enough go shooting!

Glad to have you on the forum — we always welcome input from around the world, so it's good to have you here.

It sounds to me as if you should head over to our rifles section of the website and have a read of the articles written by Bruce Potts for Shooting Times. He's very much a kindred spirit of yours. He spends much of his time reloading, the rest testing for tighter groups and the remainder writing it all up for us.

Good to hear from you.

Yours, Alastair.

I knew shooting was alive but I would never of thought that it was well in this country considering that so many chuncks have been takin off of it.

Hi.
Welcome to this side of the pond.
We shoot and eat well this side but our world is gently being eroded by "legislation". Still pigeon and rabbit most likely tastes the same there as here.
Keep your powder dry and enjoy your season!
