Hi all,
I'm brand new to the sport (and this forum!) and would appreciate some advice from experienced shots.
Once my license comes through, I'll be looking to purchase some lessons and a shotgun. From the advice I've taken from friends I already know that I want a 28-30" gun with multi-choke. I've toured my local gunshops and consistently found that a Lanber or Franchi Harrier fit the bill perfectly.
I've also seen the odd second hand gun going for a similar price.
My question is - in your opinions, would I be better off with a brand new gun with warranty along the lines of Lanber or Franchi, or paying the same price for second hand Beretta or Miroku?
Thanks for your help in advance!

If you have the money to buy a new Lanber then do so they are one of the best budget guns on the market and you will get your warranty. However if you can find a well looked after shall we say, low milage Beretta then that will be a slightly better buy but both will last you years if you look after them properly. I have had both and been very pleased with both. My personal choice would have to be the Beretta,686,687,682. But make sure you get one to suit your eye dominance, that is to say a left handed one if you are left eye dominant and learn to shoot with it. It will feel odd at first but two weeks later you wont notice it if you practice dry mounting each day for 15 mins, it will help you shoot better. If you are right eye dominant or middle vision then buy a right handed gun. Also don`t forget to buy some snap caps, most people do.

before buying any, get into your local firearms dealer, a reputable one. Ask if you can try a few out, a good dealer will let you have on loan a couple of guns, try them, then try more, when you like the feel......buy it..
also look to the inhouse makers, beretta are a superb choice wether old or new, older are my preference, as the steel grades are better, franchi are from the same house, along with browning.
some spanish guns , although not of the same pedigree offer fantastic value for money, as a lanber, or better still the aramberri models, these are from the same stable as perazzi, at a fraction of the cost !
happy searching.

Thanks guys. I'm holding off buying the gun until I've had a few lessons and know what I'm looking for in a gun fit...not that I'm afraid of unscrupulous dealers taking advantage! I'm edging towards a Silver Pigeon S or Browning 525 - but I also know the importance of a good fit so we'll see how that goes. Thanks again!
