Animal Aid, is this true?
      #3778 - 25/09/2008 18:24

I have just logged on to the Animal Aid website out of curiosity more than anything else, they state that the S/T published a list of pests Quote:-In 2006, the market leader weekly, Shooting Times, published a list of the 'Top 30 Pests', which included the Golden Eagle, osprey, Red Kite, buzzard and badger.
Can somone put S/T`s side of this.
Tony A.

I can't speak on behalf of ST but this was the Christmas 2005 Issue. My back copy has an article titled "Pricey Pests". It lists 30 creatures including the Golden Eagle, other raptors and mammal predators. The article claims that they have a significant impact on the rural economy. The Osprey is blamed for taking salmon. Herons, otters and badgers are listed. The worst pest according to the article is the sawbill duck which takes salmon smolts. I remember the rural affairs minister Jim Knight complaining about the article in the national press. It was reported adversely in several newspapers. The antis jumped on the band wagon. A bit of an own goal I think!
