Looking for first gun
      #3833 - 05/10/2008 14:52

Hi
another first gun post ,but i hope someone may be able to help.I got my boy a 20g silver pigeon a few months ago as the shooting bug has bitten him ,and he is very happy with it.I,take him to the local club and he has instruction and then we go off and he puts into practice what he has learnt. On one day he said here dad you have a go and guess what that pesky bug has bitten me.Now i spent about a grand on his gun (i was always told buy the best you can)but of course dont have that much to spend on a gun for me 550 tops.I,m not looking for anything too serious just a gun to break some clays with and enjoy this sport with my boy.
I have been looking at Lanber guns as they seem to fit my price range s/h,but i was offerd a Miroku3800 by my local dealer for 495' any ideas.

I would suggest that you get down to a good gunshop then let the sales person know your budget and try a few things, for that price you might also want to try a semi auto as they tend to be a bit cheaper. If you can try it out that is even better.

Personally I would probably go for something like this:

check out gun-trader.com too

Where are you based?

A Miroku 3800 is a very good gun but if he`s offering it at only £495 it must be quite rough or on it`s last legs, so beware. The lanber sporter deluxe second hand is a fantastic gun to start with and should be around £500, so go for that. I`v had one and used it for myself and coaching in the past. A cheap but very under estimated gun that handles great. Or try a s/h 686 Beretta, they are as good as you can get for that money.
