    Hello

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the sport and based in Warwick. I've only been shooting since last April when my wife bought me a 50 shot experience. I really enjoyed it so I booked a couple of lessons and now I'm hooked. I've been shooting pretty much every Saturday at a nearby club - Honesberie. A very friendly bunch and a nice ground.

It's been a huge but very enjoyable learning curve. All my years of rifle shooting had to be trained out of me. If only I had taken up clays first! I had no idea the sport is so instinctive. My coach tells me I think too much - well that's a first I thought. So all week my company pays me to think but by Saturday morning I have to arrive at the ground dumb-as.

So far I've leant that I have to keep honing the fundamentals. Get those right, get them locked into the memory and muscle-memory. Repeat, repeat etc. But it's been great to see myself go from not even being able to hit one off a high tower to a few sessions later start hitting simmo pairs. Very rewarding. Both the coaches and other shooters at the club are always very supportive in their interest and encouragement. And I took the sport up as much for the shooting as the chance to meet new people and socialise.

Current status is - SGC is being processed and currently looking at what gun to buy. Can't wait! I'm pretty far down the road with selecting a gun. The club has been very useful in being able to try a variety of different guns. I'm now at the stage of being able to understand the relative handling differences, what works for me and what doesn't. My advice to other new shots would be try out a number of guns, build up your knowledge and definitely have gun fit assessed by a professional/coach. For me, nothing off the shelf seems to fit me so I am going the route of a custom stock.

I found the Forum when I was looking for advice about applying for my SGC. There's a ton of great advice on here - all from first hand experience. So thanks to shootingUK and everyone on here.
