ive just got hold of a 500 acre estate to shoot on and could do with a 22. rifle ive used them thousands of times in the cadets and can operate one perfectly however i need to get my firearms certificate ive already got a SGC but i understand getting an FAC is more difficult could someone run me threw the process please??
Sadly, the advice from some firearms enquiry officers has been patchy - so it depends which police force you are in. The majority are excellent, but this is not universal.
You'll find the forms as well as a fair but of help and guidance.
If you're a member of a shooting organisation, why not make them earn your subscription by asking them for help and advice? That's what they're there for.
Firstly can I recommend that you join BASC, for the insurance that they offer you as well as the wealth of information that they can offer you.
Once you have the land to shoot over the rest i easy, the police will inspect your gun safes again remember that with a rifle you will need a separate ammo safe of the lock box included in the top of the gun safe!!
FAC & SGC are not entirely dissimilar but you will need to prove a reason for having the .22lr.
As recommended above, I followed the BASC advice to completing the forms.
You'll need the land cleared for .22lr by the plod, persmission slips in writing and then obviously all the pics, forms and references. The references can be ANY 2 people you've known for 2 years as long as they aren't dodgy, serving police or related/living with you.
Personally I'd recommend looking at joining a club as this goes some way to establishing good reason and helps show competency. I'd concur with the advice to join BASC, the insurance alone is worth it but they do provide advice as well.
The other thing to consider is whether you want to go coterminous SGC/FAC as it'll save some money in the long run when you renew.
as you already hold a SGC there sould not be no reson for you not to get a firearms certificate as you have a good reson to own a rife and a place to use it but the land own has to give you shooting right then the shooting right sould be sent off with your firearms certificates as you hold a SGC you are a good person.
